But not necessarily, given the statement from L&C (MR/217) that the father-name of a daughter was often derived from the name of the mother – which in turn may be relevant for the question of whether Meril is a valid name for the wife of Orodreth (although it is also not certain if Finduilas was a father-name in the first place).

But anyway, I agree that Gil-galad being son of Orodreth was the latest firm view.
