yes he was killed when he steped off onto the Undying Lands, but not by a tidal wave. The wave killed those who remained in Numenor.

and it is more who killed him, but it would make me happy if you answerd both

I'm reading the Discworld books right now, so Death isn't too abstract for me ATM.
