My summaries of the five books of the Silmarillion:

The Ainulindale: Melkor's musical mayhem makes middle-earth its mishaps.

OR

Then God said "Let there be music" and there was music. (Sorry, I realise it's a word too long...)

The Valaquenta: Good things comes in sevens.

The Quenta Silmarillion: Oooh! Shiny! Yuck, blood- love! Oooh! Shiny!

The Akallabêth: What goes up must come down.

The Rings of Power and the Third Age: See also, The Lord of the Rings.
