Ah, is it a pearl?
Pearls bring pain to the oysters where they form, don't they? They are rarely purchased singly, but together as pearl necklaces etc. Not sure about the face turning dead, but maybe they go dull if not treated. And they are used in ornaments to grace the head, such as necklaces, tiaras etc. So, is the answer a pearl?
