Riddles

How abou a rousing game of sharades..er...riddles? I'll start...

A game of men
Solves the problems of all
Though many die
one side stands tall
like a high stakes gambler
risks win it all...
What is the answer to this riddle?

the mortal elf 12-11-2002 07:00 PM

Is it chess, my precious? *pokes*

Aragorn_The_King 12-11-2002 07:07 PM

It is obviously a similie of chess. It is a battle field -- war. My turn!!!!!

It grows upon the wind,
Streaking through the sky.
Evil it perhaps abodes,
Many that will die.

It smells of fire, feels of flame--
black, a shhadow in the sky.
furnaces cause this burning tow,
above all it flies.

WarBringer 12-11-2002 07:08 PM

is it heat?

the mortal elf 12-11-2002 07:13 PM

Konarmi 12-11-2002 11:47 PM

Tigerlily Gamgee 12-11-2002 11:51 PM

Yay! A new riddles thread. We used to do this all the time in the "N & N section", if you look back many pages you can see two multiple page posts full of riddles and answers. They are so full though, that I think a new riddles thread in this section is quite refreshing (though I do miss exchanging riddles with Starbreeze, Susan, and pio...).
Let's start a new tradition here!

the mortal elf 12-12-2002 09:38 PM

Sorry I took so long, guys. I've been busy lately.

It isn't limited to one culture,
one language,
or one country.

It's universal.

It can make you laugh
cry,
or jump for joy.

It's a surge of emotion.

It can take you to the streets of New York,
the Glades of Lothlorien,
or the islands of the tropics.

It can take you anywhere.

It's poetry,
Fantasy,
and expression,

All rolled into one.

It's.... (fill in the blank here)

sorry, I know that's vague beyond reason, but it's the best I could come up with on short notice . Brownie points for anyone remotely close

Sithren 12-12-2002 09:43 PM

I believe I qould like to hear some of these riddles.

Sithren 12-12-2002 09:45 PM

guesses in a romantic voice, "love?"

Sithren 12-12-2002 09:53 PM

changes her guess to the Lord of the Rings series...

Sithren 12-12-2002 10:05 PM

*uses her old mother hubbard voice* "you young fellas think you can handle that one? It's not hard lads." *does the cha-cha* I even got it!

the mortal elf 12-12-2002 10:11 PM

*gives Sithren points for trying* Sorry, but those aren't it. Lots of things could apply to this riddle, and I'm sorry for it. I'll give you a hint.

It's not exactly tangible.

Diamond18 12-12-2002 10:24 PM

It's music.

Susan Delgado 12-12-2002 10:40 PM

Yay, a new riddle thread! I miss those old times, and those old people... *sighs nostalgically*

Heya, Princess Tigerlily!

Dang, if I'd posted this 20 minutes later, I could have had my first post on Friday the 13th also be my 1,313th post.
On second thought, maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea...

Aragorn_The_King 12-13-2002 02:59 PM

.............dreams?................

Susan Delgado 12-14-2002 12:06 PM

ME to mortal Elf, where are you, mortal Elf?

WarBringer 12-14-2002 05:25 PM

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 04:43 AM

Very well, then I will ask one.

White bird, featherless, flying out of Paradise,
Flying over sea and landing, dying, in my hand.

dragoneyes 12-15-2002 04:57 AM

a snowflake?

WarBringer 12-15-2002 12:40 PM

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 12:50 PM

A snowflake it is.

WarBringer 12-15-2002 03:07 PM

Dragoneyes gets to go now, he was before me!

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 03:11 PM

but Dragoneyes isn't online now. You go ahead. The riddle games aren't that strict anyway.

WarBringer 12-15-2002 03:32 PM

alright, here i go...

Bringer of hope and of despair
Slays they mightiest and spares the weak
controlled by the Might's Children
Shapes land,
surrounds islands...
what is the answer?

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 03:41 PM

hmm, Is it War?

Aragorn_The_King 12-15-2002 03:45 PM

Water?

WarBringer 12-15-2002 03:53 PM

it is water, hail Aragorn the King!

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 03:58 PM

How is it water?

WarBringer 12-15-2002 04:02 PM

Quote:

Bringer of hope and of despair

controlled by the Might's Children
Shapes land,
surrounds islands...
what is the answer?
Bringer of hope and despair-those who travel on sea have hope, while those caught in storms and such despair,
it can slay the mightiest, and then spare the weakest(though by chance or by design)
controlled by the Valar
it shapes land, and it surrounds islands

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 04:05 PM

ok. The wording was vague on the second line (absence of the word "can"). That's what threw me. Thanks.

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 04:08 PM

Here's one while we're waiting for Aragorn.

You can see me, though you're blind
Light shines, but dispels no darkness
Touch me and I live,
But if you're touched, I die.

Aragorn_The_King 12-15-2002 04:13 PM

You guys don't wait very long-- lets see was that ten minutes! Discount Susans riddle heres mine.
I am called hope
A fear to those that dwell in lies
My other meaning is airy as the clouds.

dragoneyes 12-15-2002 04:14 PM

I was on for AGES waiting for someone to answer me (I'm a girl by the way) Anyway all I can think of is shadow... hmmm...

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 04:15 PM

Hey, dude, what's wrong with having two riddles going at he same time? Nothing! Relax and have fun.

Is the answer to yours truth?

Susan Delgado 12-15-2002 04:16 PM

So ask one, dragoneyes
