Yes, I have read Roverandom, and I enjoyed it very much.
I have also read: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, The Father Christmas Letters, Monsters and the Critics I'm working on Unfinished Tales and Morgoth's Ring. I've also read books about Tolkien and Middle-earth that were not written by Tolkien or edited by Christopher Tolkien.

I have read The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. And I'm sure that I'll read a lot more books by Tolkien as soon as get my hands on copies of them

OK, I'm confused. I just picked up The Return of the Shadow at the book store. It's sub-titled "The History of The Lord of The Rings". But I saw Gollumsprecious as listing it as HoME. Are these two different series?
And yes, I did look at a small copy of The Silm. I was going to buy it, honestly. But then I opened it up and started reading, and there they were...the NAMES! Dozens of freakin' NAMES! My eyes started to glaze right there in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section. When I see some elf delving into the History of the Ohio River Valley and the Great Migration of the Irish to the New World, maybe then I'll take a crack at learning THEIR history. Until then...fugedaboudit! |

Return of the Shadow is volume 6 of History of Middle Earth (abbreviated HoME). Volumes 6-9 of HoME are also called History of Middle Earth.

I`ve read:
The Hobbit The Fellowship of the Ring The Two Towers The Return of the King The Silmarillion Farmer Giles of Ham And those not written by Tolkien: The Magical Worlds of The Lord of the Rings That`s it. I`d love to read "Unfinished Tales" and maybe something else about the history of Middle-Earth, but none of these are avaliable in Estonia. Sorry if this is off topic but are they avaliable online?

Hm, this gets complicated for me, because (especially in HoME) I've picked and chosen without reading the whole thing quite often. But my best summary is:
Lord of the Rings (repeatedly) Whatever's in the Tolkien Reader- I believe its Farmer Giles, On Fairy Stories, the Homecoming of Beo... (someone, my books are packed), The Adventures of Tom B., and Leaf by Niggle. The Silmarillion (repeatedly) Most of Unfinished Tales Lost Tales I&II The Monsters and the Critics The interesting parts from Lays of Beleriand The Lost Road and other writings a few articles whenever I can get my hands on a copy of Vinya Tengwar Other things include: the Humphrey Carter Biography Verlyn Flieger, Splintered Light and the Saucepan Man's favorite, the Tolkien Companion (read sadly, cover to cover) Sophia

I've read these books at least twice, some of them a lot more than that..
The Hobbit Lord of the Rings Silmarilion Unfinished Tales And also..... The Letters of JRR Tolkien I have the HoME vols 1-12 and have read most of 1,2 and 12 and bits and pieces of each of the others, they are good to dip in and out of. I've also read some of The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, not all.

Saucepan's Tolkien bibliography:
The Hobbit (about 4 times, twice recently). Lord of the Rings (about 5 times, but only once recently, and I'm only just reading the Appendices since all but the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen were omitted from my previous editions ). The Silmarillion (tried and failed about twenty years ago and recently succeeded ). Currently reading the Unfinished Tales. I also have a vague memory of reading Farmer Giles of Ham, but cannot recall much about it, so that's one of the next on my reading list. Oh, and Bored of the Rings (once, about 20 years ago so I must read that one again soon too. )

So far, I've read The Hobbit, LotR, the Sil, and UT about fifty billion times. In the HoME series, I've read The Books of Lost Tales 1 and 2, the Lays of Beleriand, the Shaping of Middle-earth, Lost Road and other tales, Morgoth's Ring, Return of the Shadow, and War of the Jewels (all at least twice). As you can tell, I have absolutely no life!

Wait, so you're saying someone wrote books out of the Lord of the Rings movies? I certainly hope they're not as tacky as the Star Wars and Star Trek books, but I doubt any author could match the brilliance of Peter Jackson's script-writing. Still, everyone's got to make a buck I guess.
