Sting LotR: The Best of the Century

I remember seeing in a a magazine near the end of '99 the results of a huge poll about the best of the centruy stuff. One of these categories was trilogies. (I know LotR is one book with three volumes but they classified it as a trilogy) anyways, it won the Best Trilogy of the century beating Star Wars. But I have a problem. Does anybody know what magazine this was in? I can't find it and I don't remember where I saw it. Please help! Thanks.

Really? Cool. I don't know what mag that was in. However, right on the back of my copy of LOTR it says "The Book Of The Century". Is that what you were thinking of?

There are also to quotes underneath the synopsis type thing:
Quote:
The English-speaking world is divided into thouse who have read the Hobbit and LOTR and those who are going to read them. Sunday Times
And

Quote:
Masterpiece? Ohyes, I've no doubt about that. Evening Standard
Is that what you were thinking of?

My best guess would be either, Entertainment or Time. Most magazine you can read on the Internet, try going to Google and type in The best in the century and see what you can get.

good luck!

There is one source here: http://www.tolkienonline.com/docs/2825.html

And another here: http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/muss/topbooks.html

The first is an article about a 1997 poll of Waterstone bookstore chain's readers and a later, 1999 poll of Amazon.com customers, in which LOTR was at the top of both lists (much to the dismay of the literary critics).

The second is a poll currently underway of the top books of the 20th century. (There is even a form to fill out to submit your own top ten votes.) Currently, LOTR is at the #1 spot.

Hope these help!

LotR isn't a trilogy.
