Did anyone think RotK fell short of some expectations? I was expecting a little more especially at the end. the ending was kind of cruddy. i wanted to see the scouring of the shire. that was probably the biggest disappointment for me.
anyone share my opinion?

Well the film for me didn't exceed my expectations, but it did meet them. I have to admit I was dissapointed by the way they did show some of the parts (for example... Grey Havens, the ending, Shelob, etc.), but then I do understand why they did what they did (well in some pars, the ending could have most definitely been fixed though).
But I will save my final, definite opinion for when the EE comes out. I think that it will be a big improvement over the theatrical edition though. It will hopefully be a lot smoother and more detailed, and it will also hopefully contain a lot of my most favorite parts of the stories.

I thought it was great. The ending could have been better, but hopefully that will be corrected in the EE.

I was disappointed in that Theoden's death (which always makes me cry when I read it) didn't move me at all. I was also hoping for the houses of healing scenes and was pretty disaapointed when they weren't included.
ROTK (the book) had so many things going on in it that there wasn't time to do more than a cursory job in the movie. In the end, I felt like there was so much left out and yet I couldn't have sat there any longer. It's too bad there wasn't enough conflict to make RoTK into two films and cover everything in depth. In this case, a miniseries might have fit the bill better, although the production values would have been far inferior. -Lily

One thing that I was disapointed about was the time between the hobbits keaving Minas Tirith and the end, nothing happened and people I saw it with thought the ending was boring as a result. If the Scouring of the Shire had been shown it would've provided some more action towards the end, making the ending more interesting, especially to those who hadn't read the books and didn't understand the whole going into the west.
