Probably to flush out the seer, and the actual seer remained alive until the endgame, so that's a pretty major backfire.

Possible. Though if the reason was "gain trust and steer the village"... I guess the optimal wolf ploy would be to combine those two. You gotta realize though, the longer you live that way the less chance of you actually being the Seer.

He basically made himself guaranteed to be dreamed by the actual seer, which is why I wasn't worried about it.
