No. It's something the whips make driven prisoners *do.*

Is what you do 'whip out Beater'. Beater was wielded by Turgon himself in the olden days, and there is a theory that his nephew made and wielded Orcrist.

Look at the song in 'The Hobbit.' When the dwarves are chained together in the cave, and the orcs are whipping them down to Goblin Town. The Rankin-Bass reference was just for humour and the 'whip' connection. EDIT: Yes to your last post/question.

I think 6 is one of those clues, and Miniature mutt gives us Minyatur.

6 makes me think of Roverandom, but I'm not sure we can do anything with that. 1: A butty is a sandwich (usually as 'chip butty' in my experience). Hmm... a sandwich is also a sarnie, so that suggests SARN FORD. You lose 'i.e.', which kind of fits with '- before that'. 9: This must be a name with 'ear' in it (for the specs), but EARENDIL doesn't seem to fit. EARNIL = ear + nil (= none), so that would work. 5: could this simply be FALL? hS |

I don't thing fall is the answer, for it has nothing to do with the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogTDa-vG2MQ

So what might you do if that's being sung at you? There's a fair few verbs mentioned (and a few more in the poem it comes from), but nothing jumps out as being anything other than a verb; no place- or person-names. GO is the most repeated one; there's no other verbs unambiguously directed at the captives in the song ('batter, jabber' could be). In the poem, both 'work' and 'shirk' are, and arguably 'pound'. Or it could be synonyms, which is where fall came into things (as a synonym for descend, go down, &c). hS | |

EARNIL: Dunno how this geezer keeps his specs on, or stops his helm falling over his nose! 10. Kanga’s baby’s bogies are projectile for him! One more correct answer so far. The verb you want is kind of similar to jabber and batter. Closer to jabber, I would say. The dog element is not the *name* of a dog. It's a synonym, but 'mutt' is the wrong synonym. WHOOPS! SORRY! EARNIL IS CORRECT TOO! WELL DONE.

Kanga's baby is indeed called ROO. Don't change the spelling. I think bogies are called boogers in North America. One of Urwen's dog synonyms is right.

Seafaring is either marine or maritime. Amputee probably means 'loses an arm'. If we remove 'arm' from these, we get I N E I T I M E

It's Maedhros' mother-name. Speaking of Feanorions, has Urwen already guessed CURUFIN for the C clue? CUR + (FINE - E) [for 'wee, small'], with a U for 'pivots', ie U-turn. hS |
