Welcome, Barrel-rider!
One thing I've definitely come to believe since I joined the Downs is that there is no such creature as a 'typical Tolkien fan'. Here we seem to have them all: the learnéd, the eclectic, the young, the old, the in-between. Movie-fans, and movie-not-fans.  Enjoy yourself!
