Wow, I wasn't looking for a true answer and I got one anyway. Thanks, Peregrin Boffin, for your excellent find in HoME. So my main inkling was wrong, I guess. Oh well! It's interesting to note that the quote goes quite nicely with Kalimac's mention of the Grim Reaper. Here we have Grim Aragorn and Death in the same setence. I like that irony!
