Firefoot has been trapped in the Barrow!
That is fine with me - like you said, a nice dramatic start. I will probably put off introducing Leof's sister until a bit later though (I've already written their reunion and I think it would fit better maybe a month or so later?).

One thing I just want to question... it seems a little unlikely to me that Scarburg would get hit so hard by the winter, but the surrounding areas had enough surplus from their harvests that they're able to send aid... Scarburg is only about 50 mi from Edoras, which isn't far when it comes to weather systems. This seems a bit isolated.

Also, doing some research on previous harsh winters, the Long Winter in Rohan lasted November-March with Rohan under snow for five months - the winter described in Nogrod's post sounds like snow cover for seven (October-May), so we're talking about by far the worst winter in Rohan's history.

I don't want to criticize the work you've done, Nogrod, since I really appreciate it, but I just wanted to put in perspective how bad of a winter we're talking about (maybe snow cover from November to March as in the Long Winter just doesn't seem like a very harsh winter to a Finn, lol - actually, it doesn't seem that absurd to me, either...).

An interesting point that seems relevant whatever way we go though, also about the Long Winter: "The melted snow caused great floods with the Entwash becoming a vast fen." Seeing as Scarburg is quite near the Entwash...

Also been doing some research on hay, and looks like it's a crop that gets harvested two or three times a year, so the horses should be okay, anyway.

Just a suggestion, but it might be good if you discussed the new game on its discussion/planning thread, instead of the old Meadhall thread....

Would you like me to move the posts from this thread to the Hard Winters discussion thread - specifically:

from Firefoot's post on 6/4 - #3994
"Just to be clear - we're now starting in F.A. 19? So more of a 4 year jump?

I think I'm the last person on the thread who will argue with that ( ) but want to make sure we're all on the same page."

through Firefoot's post on 6/5 - #3999

"Also been doing some research on hay, and looks like it's a crop that gets harvested two or three times a year, so the horses should be okay, anyway. "

Please post all your planning and discussion pertaining to the new RPG, Hard Winters, on the Hard Winters Planning/Discussion Thread.

I moved Nogrod's post there - #3986 on this thread and also the discussion posts between Nogrod and Firefoot - #'s 3994 thru 3999.

I'll move others as needed - but do feel free to talk about your new RPG on its own Planning/Discussion thread.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, please, Pio. Any posts that are mainly discussing the new set up and transition rather than how things were at Scarburg, should be on the Hard Winters discussion thread.

If a post covers both, is it a problem for them to show on both threads?

The posts I move from this Meadhall thread will stay here on this thread, but will appear on the Hard Winters Planning/Discussion thread as posted under my name - they are, however, all referenced at the top to the original poster's name and linked to the original post here on this thread.

I just realised I do not really have enough material to write a fill-in post for Hilderinc, I have more like some things I want to mention somewhere, but they are fairly few. They could be also incorporated into something bigger. (Such as... G55, how is the post you've been talking about? Is the idea of drafting up something and sending it to me, or co-writing it, still on?)

One of the things I wanted to mention somewhere, but which I might just point out here, is one thing that's been present throughout the previous thread and which really stood out when I was re-reading: Hilderinc's attitude towards Léof. So maybe also for your convenience, Firefoot, if you wished to take it into account when thinking how Léof's attitude to Hilderinc might have developed during those years: on the previous thread, Hilderinc has consistently been calling Léof "the stablemaster" inside his head since the moment they met, and I've been thinking, given that, he might have started using it even aloud during the years. Kind of developing the habit. Whether Léof would consider it embarassing, or think it's a mockery, or think it's appreciation, or "wear it with pride", or just think Hilderinc was weird, whatever... (Hilderinc is using it rather as a kind of friendly title, sometimes in appreciation, but however Léof interprets it is of course up to him.) So, just saying. (I will of course keep using it in the future and if you want Léof to react to it, we can sometime do it. I think such an opportunity would arise by itself eventually.)
