Lily Bracegirdle has just left Hobbiton.
Hi, Inderjit Sanghera!

Well, it's certainly true no elves are seen in Bree in LotR, but I'm assuming they must occasionally go there as it states:

"The Bree-folk, Big and Little, did not themselves travel much"

If the Bree-folk rarely go anywhere, how can they be "more friendly and familiar with Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves ... than was (or is) usual with Big People", unless the Elves and Dwarves come to *them*? Maybe some Elves travel through Bree on the way to the Grey Havens. Or maybe they go slumming at the Prancing Pony with King Elessar when he's visiting Lake Evendim.

Unless, of course, by "friendly and familiar" the Professor is saying that the rare Bree-folk that wandered outside Bree and came across an Elf would be more likely to pinch his bottom than your average Man would be.

Cheers!
