Not that I am quite sure what you mean by "caught of guard", but any sensible person would chose Faramir. Aragorn is simply much better at everything.

Who would you rather be rescued from a Wight attack by, Gildor or Tom Bombadil?

Anyways, old Tom. Gildor is for nazgul, Tom is for wights.

Would you rather be trapped in a barrow and rescued, or take the longer way around the Downs and never get to see them (but safely continue on your way)?

Hmmn. With the knowledge that I have? The barrow, of course. But with the knowledge of the average Middle Earther, I would certainly take the long way.

Would you rather steal something from Smaug or get into a fight with one of the Ringwraiths?

Melkor. Angainor and the Void are a better option in my eyes than two midgets with a Ring and nowhere in particular. Plus, I get to have Silmarils! And I'd rip those wings off me Balrogs once and for all!
