Well, of all characters, Aragorn. I've read only LOTR, not Hobbit, not The Silmarillion, or any, so hard to say. But here we go.

"*Aragorn*" means that he is best.

Hobbits: *Merry*, Frodo, Bilbo.

Men: *Aragorn*, Eomer, Elendil, Theoden.

Elven: Legolas, *Gil-Galad*, Galadriel, Glorfindel, Elrond, Arwen.

Dwarwes: *Gimli*, Gloin, Thorin Oakenshield.

Maiar: *Gandalf*, Radagast.

Valar: *Manwe*

Others: *Tom Bombadil*.
