I'm getting sick of saying this:

Just because Gollum is "bad" doesn't make it alright for Sam/Frodo/whoever to mistreat him. Especially not according to the Christian principles you think should be applied to Harry Potter. After all, Jesus hung around with prostitutes, tax collectors and criminals, the real-life "Gollums". If you are so eager to "nice-ify" harry potter, because it's not as good as the LotR, perhaps you should look at the morals of Sam again.
