Isildur should have tossed the Ring into the Fire,sure. Chalk up his mistake to a momentary weakness. And once he had the Ring in his possesion,he couldn't get rid of it voluntarily. He made up for it at the Gladden Fields though. Certainly the noblest Ring Bearer.
