Is there an "official" back story for the Cook's disappearance or are we letting things develop?

To my memory, there is no official (or even unofficial) back story to Cook's disappearance. She was just gone. People are looking for her, and I pretty much left what happened in the search and find to people who were playing the parts of the seekers. So I have no idea what happened to her.

Well, I posted something. It is rough, I grant you, but it will continue the story line.

Now, earlier, Prim and Rowan had gone into Cook's room and found something. I don't think they found a letter. More like a carved ship or something. If I have time later, I will look into that and see just what it was.

Folwren you don't have to read through the whole post. I did a summary a little while ago to try and make it easier for any new recruits (as well as forgetful old lags) in post 822 of this thread. It includes relevant extracts and references most of the posts.

Folwren, I'm working on a post now, and I'll put it up it as soon as I get it finished.

Mithalwen, it would really depend on when your character was last at Mithlond. I was thinking that Amadi had spent the winter with the elves there, and then left Shireward when the weather turned (which would mean he has at least some proficiency in elvish). I doubt he got those vambraces by honest means, so if you really want to make him squirm, you can have her know the craftsman. That could be fun.

Speaking of weather, is it still spring at the inn?

PS - Loslote, I think the conversation at the elves' table is wide open. You can't respond to me directly, but maybe you can get the conversation drifting toward events at Mithlond to set up for some interaction?

PPS - With this username, I'll probably get the hobbit thing a lot.

Good thing I'm short and lovable.

Yes it is still Spring ... there was a small time distortion but only a few days have passed since the thread began!!

Mithalwen has been away from Mithlond only as long as it takes to get there by pony & trap. She came to meet the twins who travelled as far as the Shire from rivendell with pilgrims to the palantir plus a couple of days. So she probably left a couple of weeks ago at most.

Now Mithalwen is a craftswoman - specialist in musical instruments but since that would have small demand relatively I have imagined a lot of her "bread and butter" work is in more practical day to day items in wood and metal. To add leather too it might stretch her skills but I bet she would have made the buckles and would surely know the leather worker since Mithlond would have been a tiny community at that time. They might even be the type of thing she would use her self though more for support and protection when using tools. Mithalwen had a clearout to make room in her house for her expected visitors (the waggon is full of stuff that she was going to try and sell) so there might have been ample opportunity for an enterprising chap to help himself to anything of interest just lying around . Yes ... I think there will be some recognition. Excellent....

Oh I didn't mean to make you feel under pressure to return! I will perhaps post at least to "tidy up" the twins a bit, and maybe the new players will be able to introduce their characters but I don't imagine we will get too far ahead of you!

Thank you Mithalwen for allowing me and others to describe our characters. Gaurcrist is an elf, who is a scholar and has written books such as "The Evil of Sauron". Gaurcrist also would like to fight, but is restricted from this by his father.

Hi Gaurcrist! Oh goodness, I have no authority here, I am just hoping to encourage a little activity!

Folwren is the Innkeeper who is very helpful at integrating new arrivals and is responsible for moving time on and so on which is why I hope we will have her input once she has time - I wasn't a teacher for very long but I can't get out of the habit of being perhaps over concerned with peoples exams

Need less to say I wasn't always so conscientious with my own... I'll stop fussing now Foley I promise!

Since you are a new arrival to the downs as well as the Perch, I suggest you take a look at the first dozen posts at the beginning of the thread and get an idea of the set up. You will also find a full character description for your character which Piosenniel will link to with the others. This fuller description will help other characters to interact with yours more easily since they will know what you look like and if you come from the same place which may affect how they respond.. For example an elf from Rivendell is unlikely to be a complete stranger to another Rivendell elf - the community is too small and the lives are too long - they would be bound to know each other by sight at least, whereas two individuals from Rohan might easily be total strangers to each other.
