Disillusionment.

I want to believe in the inherent goodness and rationality of people.

I want to believe that Santa Claus has the best interest of small children in mind when he sneaks into their houses at night.

I want to believe that I'm not the only person on the planet who can deal with problems efficiently, without holding a grudge, with an eye on compassion for all involved.

I might be naive and idealistic. I don't care. I want to keep it. It's comforting, and I want it.
