the people that write parodies have obviously put a lot of work into them, and are devoted to what they are doing, in addition to the writing being well done, I think you can appreciate what they are doing

After all, there are million things to do with a work of literature. Characters heard and unheard of in a story alone are great to explore using your own imagination. I rarely pay any attention to these things, but it's kinda like fanfic, only it's really parody.
