It seems the answer to this question is in my head waiting to jump out. I almost recall the quote "And so he died: the last, who was greatest" or something like that. And unless I'm making it up or thinking of another book I'm going to kick myself if I can't find the answer.

Hurin, who was "greatest of the warriors of mortal men" if I've got the quote right; and the last of the House of Hador to fight in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. In fact the last person to fight of anyone on his side there.
