Hi, although I'm not unfamiliar with this site (as it turned up once and intrigued me when I did a routine Google search for links to one of my own websites), I'm new to posting and more extensive reading here. Yeah, the name is ungainly

but I once threatened to join a Tolkien forum using that name (the Valarin name for Telperion), and the time felt right.

A little about myself: I've been a fan of Tolkien's writings for most of my life, I've done a number of creative and scholarly projects focused on them, and I'd better admit it now, I'm not a big fan of the movies (though if they're what floats your boat, fine with me; to each his/her own). I don't know how active I'll be, but so far, I like the neighborhood.

For shortening, I'd suggest Ibrin (though on first sight, my original idea was something like "dilophosaurus"

).

Well, I never expected anyone, even myself, to use a name that unwieldy!

It just seems that, long though I have loved Tolkien's works, every time I try to join a discussion group -- even when it's just forming -- someone's always beaten me to the punch for names I would like that came from Tolkien's world. I think Ibrin is the most natural shortening of it -- although if one cares to get into Tolkienian semantics, "ibri" (V. "silver") would be the root of that part of the name. But having grown up in a large family, I sometimes answer to "hey, you" too
