Maylin, I want to congratulate you for reading LOTR at your age! You are right. It is certinly not a "childrens" book. Most of your peers no doubt find it either too difficult or too boring to spend time on.
Have faith and keep reading. In a few years, they may change their minds. Untill then, there's always the Barrow Downs!
