I'll get this thread started off with a new question
In which battle did Thorin, son of Thrain, gain his nickname.

Let's try this: Someone decided to stand with certain faction in a certain battle because of the sympathies with their leader and also because he could easily retreat if he stood with this faction.
My questions:

Who?
In what battle?
With what faction did he side?

Who? Brodda, Ulfing Chieftan.
In what battle? Battle of Unnumbered Tears
With what faction did he side? Morgoth and his followers.

Brodda, in sympathy with his leader, Uldor the son of Ulfang, sided with Morgoth and his minions against the elves and other free people's of Middle Earth.

Only thing I dont know about is the easy to retreat bit.
