If she were modfired I would not have bothered with her.

Four minutes. Don't think anyone else's going to show.

If you are a balrog, Mith, you killed the lovers but deemed yourself by that. Is that selfless enough for you?

Day4 ends...

No one but Shasta wanted to lynch Kath, but as he was the fastest to cast his vote, it was Kath indeed who ended up being lynched.

“But no- you can’t lynch her, we are lovers!” claimed Legate.
“I don’t trust you at all”, answered Mithalwen.
“Yes! How can we know if one of them is a balrog?” asked Nogrod.
“And what if Kath is a balrog? She could kill us too easily”, Nerwen said.
“Would there be any way to make her harmless?” Naria wondered, frowning.
“I know!” shouted Shasta. “Let’s drug her and kill her when she’s unconscious!”
“Now, that’s outrageous! She’s the daughter of High King Turgon, you can’t kill her like... like that! Actually, you’re not going to kill her at all!” Legate roared.
“Take it easy, darling, take it easy!” said Kath and put her hand on Legate’s shoulder.
“Don’t be afraid, my love”, he answered, unsheathing his sword which had been hanging unseen under his cloak, “I would rather die myself than let them kill you!”

But the furious mob was not defeated that easily. Naria knocked Legate down and Nerwen took his sword. Nogrod sat down on him so that he couldn’t move at all. Despite the lovers’ protests, Mithalwen and Shasta grabbed Kath by arm and took her away.

“How could we drug her?” asked Mithalwen.
“Let’s give her those mushrooms”, answered Shasta. “They’re surely poisonous.”
So, Mithalwen and Shasta picked some green mushrooms that grew in the wall and gave them to the struggling Kath. She tried to resist, but they forced her to swallow the mushrooms.

Kath’s face turned green. She gasped for air and her eyeballs turned around in their sockets. When she fell to the ground, she didn’t breath anymore.
“Hmm, it seems to have worked quite well”, observed Shasta.

At that moment, Legate broke free. "Idril, Idril!" he shouted, "How could this happen?" He ran to his beloved but it was too late. She was already dead. "How could this happen?"

There was no response from the hollow-eyed spectators. He did not pay attention to them, but turned again to his beloved.

"Ah, dear Idril,
Why art thou yet so fair? Shall I believe
That unsubstastantial death is amorous;
And that the lean abhorred monster keeps
Thee here in dark to be his paramour?"

"What? Lean abhorred monster? I thought Maeglin was dead already!" Nogrod asked.
"Shh, he's having a romatic monologue, it's impolite to interrupt one", Naria rebuked him.

So the man known to the miners as Legate but to the city-folk as Tuor Son of Huor continued:
"For fear of that I still will stay with thee,
And never from this place of dim night
Depart again: here, here I will remain
With worms that are thy chambermaids. Oh, here
Will I set up my everlasting rest;
And shake the yoke of inauspicious stars
From this world-wearied flesh. Eyes, look your last!
Arms, take your last embrace! and lips, O you
The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss
A dateless bargain to engrossing death!
Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavory guide!
Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on
The dashing rocks thy seasick weary bark.
Here's to my love!"

Laughing widly, he picked up a crumb of mushroom from Kath's lips.
"So small, so deadly", he said, "no doubt even this little crumb would take my life."

"Or make him see hallucinations", Nerwen commented sceptically.
"Isn't he having those already?" Shasta asked.

But the noble lover, at the brink of his departure from this world, hardly heeded those speeches. He placed the mushroom crumb on his tongue and swallowed. Then he laid down on the stony floor and took his lover's hand. "I just hope our love will reach over the boundaries of the fates set to our peoples..."

Before he slowly passed away, the villagers could hear him humming in a weak, drugged voice:
"Ooooh Babe.
Dont leave me now.
How could you go?
When you know how I need you..."

"Happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you,
happy birthday dear Nogrod,
happy birthday to you."

"What? Who's singing?" Nogrod asked.
"It's just me..." said the Balrog who Sings.
"But it isn't my birthday today!" Nogrod protested.
"Well, it is, in a way", replied the balrog, "it's the day of your rebirth. A bit like a phoenix, you know... Burn to ashes and be born again."
"You're going to burn me?" Nogrod asked.
"Of course", the balrog replied, "but it won't hurt and you'll be born again!"
Without further speeches, he took his cigarette lighter and set the miner on fire.

Nogrod ran to the little brook Eärendil had slept in. "Ulmo, oh mighty lord, protect me", he screamed. There was a splash that drenched his clothes. He was no longer burning. "Oh, thank you, most noble Vala", Nogrod said.

"A pity... you ruined your rebirth", the Balrog who Sings said and advanced on the elf, eyeing him critically. "But hey... you're almost cooked... I mean, not raw anymore, sort of medium. I always wanted to know what an Elf tasted like..."

Singing a merry song he had learned in school, the Balrog who Sings went back to pretend to be asleep.

"Six a.m. out of bed
By the dawn's early light
Everyday's a new day to
Start the day off right.

Pour the milk, toast the bread
Take a cinnamon oatmeal bite
Have a healthy breakfast
Start the day off right."

Ugh. We're down a Ranger, and it's all my fault.

Please come back, Mith, I'm sure nothing bad was meant by anything anyone said.

Edit: And that's kinda not cool, Lommy, referring to the Balrog who Sings as a "he", when I'm the only "he" left alive. :P

Shasta thank you! You have decided me on so many things.

If you were a balrog you wouldn't want me to play. I think Nerwen innocent and if she isn't I can deal with losing to such a bravura performance.

To get the right kill we have to get the 2 votes for our choice first?

What do you say for voting Naria now and finishing this?

Damn. That was the worst possible time for the site to break down. Believe it or not as you choose, but by that time I was leaning towards Ranger-ordo lovers, and I was going to argue that we couldn't risk lynching them.

And now Nogrod's dead– no surprises there.

Nogrod, Kath, Legate, I'll do my best to make sure you didn't die in vain.

Thinlómien said she would use "he" for all the Balrogs, and that the narrations would contain no clues to their identity.

OK, people, this is the endgame. Consider your choice very carefully.

I'll be back soon with some arguments.
