Why capturing and attempting to question the Fellowship would not have worked for Saruman:

 So then...then I told them that I was the standard bearer, and that they had no rights to speak to me that way, and so I spoke to Gil-Galad but haven't heard back yet, and they took my standard...  Uh, yeah...I'm going to have to move you to questioning room number 42...it's downstairs in the basement, next to the Uruk breeding pens.  But...but I...safety hazards...wait I....I believe you have my standard?
