I first read the hobbit when I was in fifth grade. My mother had read a lot of Tolkien in High School, but could'nt remember much of it (she, to this day calls the Silmarillion the "Samrillion" and calls Eomer "Elmer" *shakes head in despair*) But she remembered enough to know it was the kind of thing I'd like, so when I was sick she bought me a copy. I devoured it in about two days and then read the entire Lord of the Rings in less than a week. I got a little bogged down in the Silmarillion though, and didn't finish it till about my sophomore year of high school. Since then I've probably read it all about twenty, twenty five times *sigh* it just keeps getting better!
