Greatest of Morgoth's creations?
what in your opinion is morgoth's greatest creation? I believe that it has to be the balrogs, as they turned the tide in countless battles...

I would have to say either Balrogs or Dragons.....the obvious choices but why else would they be so popular?

Although Balrogs and Dragons are great you cannot over look the Orcs. What would Morgoth have been without them and indeed what would Sauron have been? Balrogs and Dragons were the massive and quite rare fighting machines but the Orcs were the bread and butter of the army and probably made up about 90% of Morgoth's forces. Without them he would have been much weaker.

The Balrogs weren't creations of Morgoth. They were corrupt Maiar spirits of fire that took the same form...yadee yadee yah.
IMHO, Morgoth's greated creation was Ancalagon.

Orcs,absolutely, and in extremis!
They are a corruption of the Elves and hated by Illuvator. None of Melkor's other creations show the malice of spirit as the inception of a being purposely distorted from its origins. |

Probably a dumb question....but how were Dragons created by Morgoth if he did not have the power to create?
Did he breed them, if so from what?

I've wondered the same thing too. What about all the different kinds of trolls and other monsters mentioned in the Sil? He must have had some kind of power to create. I supposed you could argue that trolls are corrupted ents, but as far as I know, JRRT never really says so specifically, only hints at it in Treebeard's speech: 'But Trolls are only counterfeits, made by the Enemy in the Great Darkness, in mockery of Ents, as Orcs were of Elves.'

The original worms were (allegedly) bred from giant lizards and "enchanted", I guess. Other than that, I don't know.
