I haven't read of Chrysophylax, though it seems now I'm going to have to.
I'd have to say Glaurung. He was the father of all the dragons, and was such a cunning & powerful beast. But mostly, he was cool! I think that tons of people would be thinking of Smaug, only because he's the one everyone knows about.
