The Silmarillion is a great read; have you ever read HoMe or my old favorites Farmer Giles of Ham; and, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil? They are great to read to children.

Talking of the sil forum is lindil, HerenIstarion and Aiwendil still here in the Downs?
