OK, I must risk incurring Boromir's suspicion, probably even that of others, but my gut feeling today again points me toward Shelob. I hesitate to vote a second day for the same person - and in tandem with the same person, tgwbs! - but there's something there that jars with me, though I can't put my finger on it to explain.
