Gandalf the White, it's already been done.

The Lord of The Rings is not three separate books.
It is one work published in three volumes.

The film is not three separate films.
It's one film released in three parts.

That's why they released it in three parts.

I thought it odd, seeing that "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers" were playing on TV this past weekend, that the 'information' regarding FotR stated that it was "Part 1 of 2" of the LotR trilogy. TTT was part 2, and so maybe TBS (the station airing the movies) hadn't updated their information since before RotK came out.

Or maybe they just don't have a clue.
