Eases the crossing: Errrrrrrrr . . .

Must be well protected: In it is one of passes through Beleriand that Morgoth wanted to take, so it was well protected--until Bragollach, that is.

) begin with an S, however, it is the lesser known name of the thing in question. And I don't think I'm overstepping by saying it is a Geographical Feature.

Can't tell you much more without blowing it.

Ship of Long Foam (Otherwise known as Cair Andros)?

Divider of the Great: Splits the Anduin.

Eases the Crossing: Um, I suppose it would make crossing the Anduin easier since it would be two narrower rivers rather than one wide one...

Must be well protected: It was guarded against the forces of Mordor by Gondorian soldiers, though the defenses were breached due to not enough men.
