I think this sunbed-towel thing is stupid, too. But it's really funny that no country wants to be the guilty one

Hah! Now I've just got these mental images of mad Europeans secretly plotting to reserve their sunbeds, and resorting to all sorts of tricksy business in order to make sure they get theirs in a nice, sunny spot. Sometimes they even must sink so low as espionage to distract the enemy would-be sunbathers, by sneaking in at night to lay out therir towels super-early, or taking a towel off the sunbed, tossing it over the fence in a not-very-discreet fashion, and then whistling innocently as they place their own towel down, lie down, and twiddle their thumbs, pretending nothing ever happened. It's like those old "Good Spy, Bad Spy" cartoons. ![]() |
