Tolkien

Hi, all!

I have just registered in the BD, although I have been browsing through its threads for quite some time. Besides, I have met some of the BD's members elsewhere and I am now glad we will be able to possibly meet here as well.

I have to say that I am strongly impressed by the knowledge and the in-depth-understanding of Tolkien and his works that I find here!
I have been studying Tolkien for almost three years now but I still consider myself just a student, and as such I have a lot of questions, that, I hope, I shall be able to find the answers to here. So ... bear with me!
For ... sometimes I'm just being provocative, hoping that to look upon an issue from the "opposite corner", helps for the better understanding.

Happy to meet you all!

Lhunithiliel
(...which name I once got through the BD name generator... )

1420!

Pleased to have you here at the downs Lhunithiliel. No matter how long one studies Tolkien, there is always more to find out, that's what I like about it . I hope to see some of your questions soon .

Thank you kindly, Boromir88 (so many Boromirs! )

I shall certainly soon find some courage to post a question or two of mine.

* * *

A question... though I appologize if this is not the place to ask:
How to change the "sub-name" under my forum-name? This "newly deceased" ... hmmm... doesn't appeal to me.

Welcome to The Barrow Downs. That post of the FAQs actually answered my question of yours, newcomer. So, we are being reincarnated so to speak?

(I apologize for calling you "newcomer", but that name of yours is a bit hard to spell and, call me lazy, but I hate looking back and forth.)

Nonetheless, welcome.

White Tree

Hiya people

My name is katie and i've been reading the lord of the rings and other tolkien works for about five years now. My friends at school all think i am obsessed but i'm not. i find reading a welcome release from people at school who keep trying to put me down. I managed to read the lord of the the rings for the first time in under twelve hours but none seems to believe about that apart from one boy at school who bet he could read the Order of the Pheonix faster than me. It took him six days to read it whereas it took me 5 and a half hours. he still owes me £10.

luv u

Noinkling - would that be no-inkling, or noink-ling. The latter is more fun to say, it must be said...One of those non-words that should be. Ahem. Welcome anyway, ye and your funky name.

White Lady - 10 quid on who could read a book faster?! You're making good money there, girl, I'm transfering to your school... Same as Lalwende, good to see another from the North West - can I ask where you're from? I'm Greater Manchester.

Newbie here.
Sounds oddly like an answermachine message...welcome to the Downs, Ancalagon. And yes, friendly is certainly the word - try The Shire as well: RPGing gives a whole new flavour as well.

Lhunithiliel - I am definitely going to have problems with that one... Joking, welcome to the Barrowdowns, whatever your name may be!

I hope to see a few of you in 'The Shire' maybe - RPGing is dangerously addictive but oddly satisfying, even if you haven't tried it before - I hadn't before I came to the Downs. Not...that I would ever plug...the Green Dragon Inn...*cough*

ps. Fea:

Good girl, you got there eventually

Welcome, Ancalagon-the-black! I sincerely hope you enjoy being dead.

Oh, dear, ruts, fifteen days of exams!??!?!??!?!? I'd never survive. Thankfully I don't have to! (one of the many benefits of being homeschooled.)

White Tree Welcome and Greetings to all!!!

Greetings friends! It seems that it has been forever since I last haunted the BD. I can not believe that I stayed away for so long. The thing that I really love about the BD is that even though I seem to be perpetually ignorant to all things Tolkien( i.e. no matter how much I learn, I have still only scratched the surface of Tolkiens depth and detail), no body treats me like a fool for not knowing what seems toi be common knowledge. Y'all are great! Namarië
