As my dear old dad relates it to me, the story goes: "...ten miles to school, uphill both ways, barefoot through knee-deep snow (the drifts were waist-deep), in sub-zero temperatures, year-round. Top THAT, whipper-snapper!" And that's only when he was in school, in the '60s! of course, then, he had to deal with Vietnam protests, too...
