Nice writing! I agree about a it more of the dragon character, but Dale could have had some big rocks here and there. I've been in wooded areas with small boulders I couldn't explain, a few littering the ground.

One thing I'm confused on. He resents the responsibility of livestock, yet his interests lie i raising sheep and cattle.
