"Merely wandering," Takua replied. "The general occupation of a Ranger." A few more people had wandered into the Inn, including a man who seemed little more than a skeleton. Takua spared him a questioning look before returning her gaze to Peony.

"I'm not sure what exactly you have built up in your mind about being a Ranger," she continued, "but I will not even assume to deny that it is a... very involved lifestyle. More so during the War than now." Her eyes suddenly emptied of all emotion. "I lost my younger brother in the War, at the Battle of the Pelennor. We here did not receive news of this until well after the fact, not for some months. Thank the Valar, that my father and elder brothers returned safely home." She stared moodily into space.

When Peony made no immediate reply, Takua glanced at her again. "Removed a stone or two from your pedestal?" she asked with a grim smirk.
