sorry to butt in...
but I have another guess: Boromir becoming infuriated with Frodo:
"For I am too strong for you, halfling, and in blind wrath I would strike you or worse." Though that's probably not it either, because it's a conditional where a future tense 'would' make more sense. Hey, that's a great quote and great guesses too.
