No to mention: Would Gwaihir have accepted the task in first place?
Was not the journey to the cracks of doom also a test for the Children of Eru, to prove their good will and righteousness to the Valar? The only help they got from the Ainur was when they proved their own courage and will (Gandalf was mainly an encourager; the Eagles only rescued the successful Sam&Frodo, and Gandalf after his heroic sacrifice; Frodo was only granted relief in the land of Bliss after his success)? A test, and a lecture, for the Shire folk, to stand up when need arises?
