The signal beacons. They show them lighting across a span that I would estimate roughly as 6,000 miles. The Rohirrim might have made it by next Thanksgiving if they bought Amtrak tickets immediately. Thank goodness for elastic geography. <P>Sméagol's voice. There should have been only a hint of Gollum's raspy purr in his pre-Ring version. That should have been part of the transformation.
