At the start, Pippin did seem a bit hesitant to look in the palantir once he got it back, but the Sauron didn't really give him a choice in the matter (notice how his hands were <I>pulled</I> onto the palantir once they were close enough?). IMHO, I didn't think it was overdone at all; come on, if Sauron is picking through <I>your</I> head, how would you react? It really kind of shows how powerful Sauron is becoming, if he can have that effect on people; plus it boosted Pippin credibility for not cracking under that intense of pressure and telling about Frodo.<P>Abedithon le,<P>~*~Aranel, the Obvious Pippin Fancier~*~
