A few points:*It does appear to be a ranger.*He does not appear to be treading the Paths of the Dead.*It is not very likely that this ranger (I won't speculate as to his name) &/or any of his companions that he might have would've ment up with Aragorn & then not followed him through the 'paths'.*Therefore it seems rather plain, to me that he is a ranger that meets up with Aragorn after the paths of the dead (sounds strange though) & fights alongside him at the fields.
