I'm surer that Balin once mentioned the watcher in his records, something about the watcher taking Oin. ahh, here it is.
"The watcher in the water took Oin."-bridge of Khazad-dum, FoTR. So maybe the Watcher did take anything that came his (or her [img]smilies/eek.gif[/img] way). Couldn't it have been one of the 'nameless things' that had surfaced?
