Actually the films have really increased the interest in the books. Unlike other book-based films, people are going straight from the movie theater to the bookstore and then are purchasing them and then reading them. LOTR is on the bestseller list and it has sold as many copies since FOTR as it did during the entire time before FOTR came out, and the Silmarillion is on there too.<P>Hopefully the renewed interest in his works would be something that Tolkien would be pleased about.
