Going back to the original question, I would say that based on what it says in LotR, Sauron would hold dominion over Middle Earth until the Final Battle. How long that would be nobody could say, but you could say that Sauron would be more powerful (in terms of his control of land and forces)than Morgoth ever had been, if he had gained back the Ring and won lordship of Middle Earth.
