mushroom: I have also had problems visualizing the world of Middle-Earth with the maps in the books. I finally bought the revised Atlas of ME by Karen Fonstad and have found it very beneficial. The maps are larger & easy to read, and there is an index of place names to help locate specific places. There are also maps that chart specific journeys (i.e. Bilbo & the dwarves; the Fellowship) & show different regions in ME.
