Yes, that sounds correct Inderjit. I always imagined that Sauron gave Gil-Galad and Elendil a "bear-hug" and though they fell on top of him, his heat killed them.

It's very possible that Fingolfin would also die in a duel with Sauron. I mean, it would be tough to get close enough to hurt him without Sauron pulling the same sort of hugging trick.
