Looking up briefly from my notes on Biological Anthropology (while wasting valuable study time, no less) I answer the Saucepan Man with: yes, darling, I agree with you on this one, though I doubt that Tolkien had evolution specifically in mind anywhere in his texts. I know what you all are "dying" to say, so maybe I'll say it for you: evolution vs. Christianity? I view that as a false dichotomy, since I am both happily Christian and happily in agreement with the theory of evolution. [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img] Doubt Tolkien was of the same mindset though, therefore do not view Middle Earth in terms of evolution. Cheerio.
